Asian Ice Cream Cake/Pie? I was in the Asian market picking up some sesame oil and a variety of noodles I like. Anyways as I was leaving I saw someone set down a plastic tub which read something like Ice Cream Pie/Cake and it either different colored balls of some sort red yellow green which could have also been fruits I guess. But I am just trying to figure this out it was an Asian brand and I was wondering if anyone knows of such a dessert and what it is called? |
| It's Mochi. Balls of ice cream covered in a thin glutinous rice shell. They are delicous and you're missing out if you don't try one. Typical Flavors are Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla, Green Tea and I've seen Redbean too. |
Poll: How come whenever I want a cream pie I can only find Asian ones? And yes I am meaning this is the most adult of ways!
I swear every single video is Asian -_- |
I can see it now....a whole new twist to the show "The Price is Right".
Lets see what the next item up for bid is shall we?
Lets face it....five bucks can buy a hell of a lot of rice these days! |
What exactly is shortening and can i use butter or margarine instead? Recipe for the white creamy chicken stew I have been checking up on shortening as required in some baking recipe. I know it is a kind of fat. Can it be effectively repalced by butter or margarine? If not how to make it, get it or what other names it is known by. Thanks.
Also if anyone knows of any good recipe for creamy chicken stew for pie. I am not familiar with the cream ingredient as I am an Asian. If it can be replaced simply with normal fresh milk or whatever would be better. Thanks. |
In goods made with flour there are long chains of protein. These are similar to the long muscle fibers in meat. The shortening, and fat in general, is used to cut or 'shorten' these to make a softer texture. Think of shortening as the meat tenderizer of the baking world.
margarine is basically the same thing as shortening. Butter flavored crisco on toast? mmmm. yummy. You can sub margarine for shortening.
Is the shortening used in this recipe for making a roux? You can use any fat for a roux, veggie oil, olive oil, pan drippings (my personal favorite) butter. Remember that oils have different temperatures that they burn at. Its called the smoke point. So crank up the heat and put in whole butter. |
Making my parents a special dinner? no reason, just because(: i'm 15, by the way & loves to cook. I was thinking of making a morrocan/asian infusion meal ish thing. lmao i have no idea what that means but it sounds good. so basically, grilled lamb kebabs with spices like cumin as the main course. i would have a mandarin orange chicken salad accompanying it & vanilla ice cream & apple pie for desert. does that sound okay? (: |
| You go girl!I really hope you have some recipes for your meals, what else are you going to have on your kebabs? How about pepper, garlic, lamb, pepper, baby onion, lamb and repeat. After they are almost done coat the entire kebab with honey and finish grilling. Are you going to use chives and bean sprouts in your mandarin salad?Instead of apple pie and ice creme, why not try ,berry surprise? It's really simple to make, you'll need 1 qt. heavy creme, strawberries, raspberry's,and blueberries, and straw berry shortcakes.Whip the heavy cream ,adding sugar to taste, into whipped creme, put your short cake in a bowl ,divide each of the berries into thirds on and around the short cake, now for the surprise, peel and cut a half of a banana over the berries, then cover it all with whipped creme. If you have all the ingredients,it should only take 15 to 20 minutes to make.Best of luck with your meal.I think it is a wonderful thing you're planning!Loads of luck and peace! |
Am I allergic to coconut? I've only eaten coconut like very little within my life. so one day I was at the mall and I ate this filipino/asian thing with coconut milk. and within about half an hour after I ate. I began feeling sick as in dizzy and tired so I went home after a while and it got worse. and the next day it worsened so much. I had a sick feeling and a fever of like 109-110 that lasted for a week. after that I never dared to even touch coconut because I was scared it might happen again. and stupidly I ate coconut cream pie at a hotel I was staying in, and since the shavings are the only real coconut part of the pie I wasn't feeling too bad. but when I got into my room I threw up:/
so am I allergic? coz I love coconut cream pie, but I don;t wanna throw up everytime I eat it. |
| There is no way you had a fever that high. That would be a fatal temperature. I once ran a fever of 105 and it damaged my night vision. I think you caught a virus. |

My dad's obesity disgusts me...? my dad is 40+ and weighs at least 320, possibly a lot more. i actually care about my dad, and considering he has high blood pressure/messed up insulin levels, his diet recently has become dangerous. my mom works at a supermarket and yesterday she incredulously purchased an apple pie (large enough for 16 servings) and suggestively placed in on my kitchen table...
my dad ate a quarter of the pie around 3 yesterday = (plus ice cream and a glass of milk, to which connected 1300 calories in synergy) then he took an hour nap, woke up to a bowl of mac&cheese, and went to work as a bus driver for 10 hours (no exercise).
when he got home he had a meal from wendys with him (asian chixken and fries) and this morning for breakfast, instead of one of the many cereals we have, more pie indulgence. he just got home and had another massive slice for lunch.
there are almost no vitamins in the ******* pie and if he touches it again i'm going to slap it out of his hand. any suggestions? |
It's really evident that your father has a problem and that it's very dangerous (that's a lot, the pie and wendy's)!
I would suggest you telling your father about this and he should see a doctor which could help him with a diet or something.
Pies = sugar = not good for him
And you should talk to your mother about this. It's not just for your father to look good, it's for his own health.
So bottom-line: Make him see a doctor and do not ignore this. Your father needs a doctor. good luck.
P.S. The answer from -It's me-, do not believe what he says. You should NOT mind your own business. Care about other people. |
Those Asians don't mess about, Bhutto's funeral has taken place already! how did they? organise everything so quickly?
It normally takes days for the pork pies and cream cakes to get delivered. I think we can learn from these people |
Obviously they didn't use Royal Mail!
Or she would be lost in the US by now! |
Do you think this is a good idea for a restaurant? I like Latin Food and Asian Food a lot. The more try of both type of cuisines the more i see similarities..
Garlic, onion, cilantro(Vietnamese food some Mexican food) corn and tomatoes.
I would like to have a burrito/ noodle shop With a few rice dishes thrown in . I could also sever small bites like Jamaican beef, mini empanadas. pork bun and Asian style wings.
For drinks i thought Mexican frozen or hot chocolate, Horchata and Bubble teas
For Dessert I thought. Lemon cakes, Chocolate lava cake, Sweet potato cheesecake(seasonal)> Green Tea Chess Pie or Cheese cake. and Different regional flavored ice creams.
I would stream line the menu to maybe 4 or 5 offerings per menu section ie
5 starters
5 Burritos
5 Noddle dishes
5 Rice dishes
5 Dessert options.
What do you think is this a bit bonkers of an idea or could be smart. |
| I agree. I love the cuisines of the world (Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, Peruvian) where they use plenty of cilantro, chiles, lime--and I do see a similarity in those cuisines. I know I'd like to try your restaurant, and it might be a success, depending on where you put it (I don't recommend starting up in the middle of some white-bread square state in the center of the USA). The only problem is this: the types of restaurants that do too many varied things usually do none of them exceptionally well--and they don't usually stay in business. The best restaurants are the ones that stick to one thing and do it perfectly (or close to perfectly, anyway). I would rather travel to two different places for my burritos and pho than have one place that does a mediocre job on both. |
